Increased violations and consequences of money laundering
Recently, there have been many traffic accidents on highways caused by disregard for the law when participating in traffic. For example, on June 25, on Thang Long Avenue (Hanoi), a tragic accident occurred when a motorbike driver traveling in the wrong direction collided with a truck and died on the spot. At the same time, two other car drivers chased each other on the highway due to personal conflicts, leading to a collision and were prosecuted for "disturbing public order".
Previously, on June 22, despite the risk of causing an accident for vehicles traveling at high speeds, a female driver on the wrong route recklessly reversed to get off the Song Cong (Thai Nguyen) intersection on the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen Expressway. This behavior was fined 35 million VND and had 10 driving license points deducted.
Worryingly, statistics from the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) show that in just two days, June 23 - 24, the authorities discovered 6 drivers - all passenger drivers - using phones while driving on the highway. These cases will be fined from 4-6 million VND and have 4 points deducted from their driving licenses.
Strict, drastic and persistent handling
Faced with the above situation, the Traffic Police Department has launched a peak period to handle violations on the expressway, focusing on common violations such as: Stopping, picking up and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations; using a phone; driving in the wrong lane, changing lanes without signals; entering the emergency lane; violating speed...
After only 3 days of deployment, more than 800 violations were handled. The authorities simultaneously deployed mobile patrols and secret surveillance via cameras, strictly handling all cases of drivers driving at a speed below the minimum speed limit causing danger on the highway.
According to Major Dinh Van Son - Deputy Captain of the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 1, Traffic Police Department, the most common violations today are speeding, stopping and parking in violation of regulations, running into the emergency lane, changing lanes in violation of regulations and using a phone while driving. These are all acts that pose a very high risk of accidents.
Traffic experts said that in Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP, increasing the penalty for many dangerous acts - such as going in the wrong direction, turning around, reversing on the highway to 30-40 million VND, deducting 10 points from the driver's license - is a necessary step. However, stronger measures are still needed such as revoking long-term driving licenses, requiring re-testing of driving skills, or forcing public employees to work in cases of serious consequences.
Dr. Hoang Gia Khanh - Lecturer at the University of Transport said that traffic on highways does not accept errors. With the characteristics of high speed and high density of vehicles, any violation can cause catastrophic consequences, not only for violators but also for surrounding vehicles.
Therefore, in addition to sanctions, it is necessary to tighten the training and testing process for drivers, update skills in using positioning devices and warning systems. In addition, it is necessary to promote the dissemination of traffic laws to all subjects, especially bus and truck drivers - those who regularly travel on the highway.
Regarding this issue, lawyer Nguyen Xuan Toan said that the lesson from a series of traffic accidents on highways in recent times is a wake-up call. A safe traffic system cannot only rely on the authorities, but must start from the awareness of each person. Lawyer Math said that only when drivers clearly realize that: "Acceleration is not a place to challenge the law" can the dangers that lurk every day on high-speed routes end.
