At around 9:00 a.m. on September 15, on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway, a series of accidents occurred when a limousine car with license plate 29E-127.xx crashed into a tanker truck 51C-367.xx that was moving to water the trees. After that, a passenger car 29K-043.xx continued to collide with a limousine, causing loss of control and crashing through the railing of the highway, falling to the right side of the road. Not stopping there, a 98C-270.xx pickup truck crashed into a limousine.
The preliminary cause of this accident is believed to be due to drivers not observing and not keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front. However, the lack of warnings from vehicles on duty on the road also contributes to the risk of accidents, causing drivers to failure to promptly adjust speed and direction when encountering unexpected situations.
Previously, on June 12, 2025, on the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, a serious accident occurred when a tractor-trailer suddenly crashed into a passenger bus being rescued by the authorities. The strong collision caused the tractor-trailer to continue to crash into the vehicle of the patrol force (under the expressway management unit). As a result, two people were killed and some vehicles were severely damaged.
As in the case of the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway, at the time of the accident, there were no warnings given to other vehicles participating in traffic about the presence of rescue vehicles or vehicles on duty on the expressway. Drivers could not identify dangerous situations in time and were unprepared, leading to the unfortunate incident.
On expressways, the warning system for other vehicles about vehicles on duty (such as rescue, road patrols, construction works...) is very important. The lack of these warnings makes drivers unable to promptly identify situations and can easily lead to accidents. Another reason is that drivers often do not comply with speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. This is especially dangerous when there are vehicles on duty on the road, without a clear warning system for other vehicles.
To minimize this danger, authorities and expressway management units need to improve the warning system. Vehicles on duty on the highway, especially rescue vehicles, patrol vehicles, or construction works, need to be equipped with a clear warning system. Signs, lights, audio signals or flashing lighting systems are effective solutions to help drivers identify situations and proactively reduce speed.
At the same time, strengthening the supervision and handling of violations, educating and reminding drivers about the potential dangers when participating in traffic under special conditions is also very important.
Vehicles on duty on the expressway must be fully equipped with warning devices, and drivers must comply with speed and safe distance regulations to protect the lives and property of everyone participating in traffic. Thus, trips on the new highway reduce accidents and become safer and more convenient.
