On October 20, the leader of the People's Committee of Sen Ngu commune (Quang Tri province) said that recently, there was an unusual situation of dead pigs in the area.
Immediately after the discovery, the authorities were present to check, handle and implement epidemic prevention measures. The Quang Tri Provincial Veterinary Department has also taken samples for testing to determine whether the cause is African swine fever or not.
According to information from the Quang Tri Provincial Veterinary Department, as of October 19, 2025, the whole province currently has 1,021 pig farms (including 36 large-scale farms, 284 medium-scale farms and 701 small-scale farms), along with about 163,000 small-scale livestock households.
On October 19, the whole province did not have any new outbreaks. The number of dead and destroyed pigs is 296 in 9 communes and wards, a decrease of 130 pigs compared to October 18.
As of October 19, the whole province had 11,460 households with sick and dead pigs (accounting for 7.03% of the total number of households raising pigs). The epidemic has appeared in 64/78 communes and wards, accounting for 82.05% of the province. The total number of dead pigs is 98,511 out of a total of 441,595, equivalent to 22.31%.
Currently, 25 communes and wards have stopped epidemics, accounting for 39.06% of the 64 communes that have experienced epidemics, including the localities: Dan Hoa, Bac Gianh, Tuyen Son, Tuyen Lam, Tan Thanh, Lao Bao, Ba Long, Ninh Chau, Huong Phung and 16 other communes and wards have not had any new cases for 21 days.
The whole province still has 39 communes and wards under monitoring, including 2 communes that have passed 20 days (Phong Nha, Tan My), 1 ward that has passed 14 days (Quang Tri) and 1 commune that has passed 12 days (Phu Trach).
