On November 3, according to Lao Dong reporter, the water surface of the Bang River section passing through Gia Cung bridge area has black, widely arranged patches of oil, giving off an unpleasant smell.
Living right at the foot of Gia Cung bridge, Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan (Thuc Phan ward) said that the phenomenon of oil splashing has occurred many times in the past.
This river is associated with people's lives and supplies water to the city's clean water treatment plant. Every time oil appears, everyone is worried. People have also reported many times, hoping that the authorities will clarify whether there are any individuals or units discharging waste or not. But the situation still recurs" - Mr. Tuan shared.
According to Mr. Tuan, on days of oil splashes, river water changes color, on the floating surface there are many dark streaks, with an unpleasant odor.
Faced with the situation of oil splashes appearing many times, local people hope that the authorities will quickly clarify the cause and take measures to prevent and thoroughly handle the above situation.
Ms. Mong Thi Lan (Thuc Phan ward) was upset: "The Bang River is one of the main water sources for the city's clean water plant. If only a small source of waste is used for a long time, the consequences will be huge.
Many people are worried that when waste oil flows on the water surface, it can seep into groundwater, causing a long-term impact on the quality of domestic water and the river ecosystem. Tight control of discharge and environmental monitoring are urgent requirements.
On November 3, speaking with reporters, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Chairman of Thuc Phan Ward People's Committee - confirmed the incident and said that the authorities had gone to the scene to check as soon as they received the report.
"After the people's reflection, we sent forces down to record the phenomenon of oil splashing. The local government is coordinating with Nung Tri Cao ward to verify the source of waste oil emissions, thereby handling them according to regulations" - Mr. Tuan informed.
Mr. Tuan emphasized that the government will continue to monitor and resolutely handle any organizations or individuals discharging waste into the Bang River, affecting the environment and people's lives.
