After about a month of operation of the artificial intelligence (AI) traffic camera system, many central routes in Ho Chi Minh City have changed the awareness of traffic participants.
However, the reporter of Lao Dong newspaper during the peak hours on the afternoon of October 10 showed that errors such as encroaching on red light stops, pressing on hammock lines, running red lights or stopping in violation of regulations still occurred.
Some cars encroach on lanes or change lanes in the wrong places. In particular, there are cases of motorbikes climbing onto the sidewalk to avoid congestion.

Although there are warning signs for areas with AI surveillance cameras, many people still violate, mainly minor errors are still common.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang (Nieu Loc Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) said that since learning about the AI camera, he has seen more people driving more carefully.
"Many small errors such as stopping encroaching on the line are still happening, probably due to habits and people's awareness," Mr. Hoang added.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan (Cho Quan ward, Ho Chi Minh City) shared that since the Decree 168 was issued, people's awareness has also improved, but now with AI cameras, people participating in traffic are paying more attention.
"I follow information about AI cameras, cameras take very clearly photos, if I violate, I will be recorded immediately. But many people do not pay attention to the stop line, so they often get stuck with the line pressing error, especially when there are many vehicles," said Mr. Tuan.

According to the Road - Railway Traffic Police Department (PC08), Ho Chi Minh City Police, from September 1 to October 3, 31 AI cameras recorded 3,143 cases of traffic violations. In particular, common errors are pressing the line, driving in the wrong lane, going in the wrong direction and stopping and parking in violation of regulations.
Cameras are located at key intersections, capable of recognizing license plates, classifying vehicles, detecting violations with high accuracy, and transmitting data to command centers for handling according to procedures.
In addition to 31 AI cameras, the city currently has more than 1,200 traffic surveillance cameras, many of which will be upgraded to integrate AI in the near future.

The deployment of AI cameras is considered a necessary step to increase transparency, automation and improve traffic management efficiency in large cities like Ho Chi Minh City. However, in order for technology to promote sustainable effectiveness, in addition to punishing violations, it is necessary to continue to propagate more clearly about traffic regulations such as road markings, signals, and lanes to help people avoid violations due to lack of understanding, thereby forming a civilized and safe traffic culture.
