Yamaha has just launched a new hybrid powertrain for 2-wheeled vehicles, called the Series Parallel HEV (SPHEV). Yamaha's new vehicle was developed based on the Xmax scooter model and has been redesigned to suit. The Parallel HEV series includes 2 electric motors combined with a gasoline engine. Of which, 2 electric motors have their own functions.
In addition to helping the rear wheel move, this electric motor can regenerate energy to recharge the battery during the slowdown process, or act as a regenerative brake.
When started, the vehicle operates in EV electric driving mode, using an electric motor mounted on the rear wheel axle. If acceleration is needed, the system will switch to hybrid mode - combining both a gasoline engine and an electric motor to increase performance. In addition, the vehicle also has a Boost mode to help accelerate faster, including Dual Boost (parallel motor and gasoline engine) and Triple Boost (additional support from the transmitter, transmitting direct traction to the elbow axle).
Yamaha said that the SPHEV system is in development and did not disclose the launch date.
