Note on compulsory child safety equipment on cars from 2026

Xuyên Đông |

According to regulations from 2026, when putting children in a car, they are required to have safety equipment.

The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety stipulates that from January 1, 2026, children under 10 years old or under 1.35m tall will not be allowed to sit in the same row as the driver and must use appropriate safety equipment. This is one of the new and advanced points, paying attention to children who participate in traffic.

Regarding the regulations on children's safety equipment, it is stipulated in Circular No. 48/2024/TT-BGTVT promulgating National Technical Regulations on technical safety and environmental protection quality, energy consumption of motor vehicles; specialized motorbikes; motor vehicle spare parts; safety equipment for children.

Some points to note on regulating children's safety equipment are as follows:

According to general regulations, children's safety equipment must be suitable for installation on cars.

No color or raised edges can damage the clothes of people in cars or damage the car's seat lining.

The hard parts of the child safety device do not expose the colored edges, causing wear and tear on the belt at the positions in contact with the belt.

Children's safety devices cannot be removed or cannot be removed without the use of specialized tools. Any components designed for dismantling for maintenance or adjustment must ensure the risk of incorrect installation and improper use.

Technical requirements and testing methods for locks and belts of children's safety devices are as follows:

The lock must be designed to prevent any risks of improper operation. At all locations where the lock is in contact with children, the width must not be less than the minimum width of the belt as prescribed.

The lock will always be locked in any position even when the belt is not stretched. The lock must be easy to operate. The lock must be unlocked by pressing the unlock button or using a similar device.

For closed unlock buttons, the press button surface area is not less than 4.5 cm2 with a width of not less than 15 mm.

For open unlock buttons, the area must not be less than 2.5 cm2 and the width must not be less than 10 mm.

The width is the smaller in two dimensions, forming the area of the button and the square with the direction of movement of the unlock button.

The unlock button area must be red. No other parts on the lock are made in this color.

The minimum width of a child safety device belt at the point of contact with a child is 25 mm.
