Stellantis Motorsport has just officially launched the Peugeot 208 Racing version with many improvements in engine, chassis and safety standards, targeting customers who are passionate about racing. Although the company does not bring back iconic versions such as GTI or Rallye, this 208 Racing version has inherited many technologies and improvements from previous racing models.
The Peugeot 208 Racing is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine produces 143 horsepower, 44 horsepower more than the production version, and all this power is transmitted to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.
The car weighs just 1,050 kg, providing flexible operation. The car's engine uses superethanol-E85 fuel, which reduces CO2 emissions by about 30% compared to regular gasoline. The suspension and brakes are also adjusted thanks to feedback from professional racers.
This version is not intended for mass production but is specifically designed for the FR6 Trophy, scheduled to debut in 2025 as part of the French Rally Cup. The car has been upgraded with many details such as white steel rims, green accents on the DRLs, and a number of safety features including a roll cage and an automatic fire extinguishing system according to Rally4 standards.
At €38,900 (around VND1.03 billion), the Peugeot 208 Racing is significantly cheaper than the Rally4. Stellantis has already started taking orders and is expected to deliver the cars from February 2025. However, the company has no plans to launch a hot hatch version for the street in the near future.
