On April 8, the free health check-up program in Bach Mai ward (Hanoi) attracted a large number of people, especially the elderly, to have a general health check-up, early detection of diseases and treatment advice.

This activity is being implemented in the context of Hanoi implementing Resolution 72-NQ/TW on people's health care, with the goal of helping people access medical services right at the grassroots level, early detection of diseases and reducing pressure on upper-level hospitals.
At the examination, Ms. Nguyen Thi Du (73 years old, Bach Mai ward) was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux and blepharitis.
Before that, she often had heartburn and burning sensations but had not gone for a thorough examination to determine the cause. Only when participating in a local health check-up program, was she diagnosed by a doctor with gastroesophageal reflux disease and advised to continue treatment.
In addition, she also had blepharitis and was checked by doctors and prescribed medication for treatment. "Because of our old age, there are many problems that we do not understand, but they are all patiently guided in detail by doctors and medical staff here," Ms. Du shared.

Similarly, Ms. Do Thi Dung (Bach Mai ward, Hanoi) also came for a health check and was diagnosed with high blood pressure, blood fat, and fatty liver. Due to old age, reluctance to go for long-distance examinations and subjectivity because the disease was not yet severe, she had not previously detected that she had the disease.
According to Dr. Dinh Van Hoang, Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Thanh Nhan Hospital, most of the people who come for examination are elderly people, many of whom have had the disease for a long time but have not had regular check-ups. Many cases when symptoms appear have self-medicated at home instead of going to medical facilities.

“Using drugs arbitrarily can make the disease not well controlled, especially with diseases such as diabetes, blood fat or high blood pressure. Patients also have difficulty monitoring liver and kidney function, are prone to using wrong drugs or treating the disease incorrectly, leading to a risk of complications progressing faster,” Dr. Hoang emphasized, for the elderly, periodic health check-ups to detect diseases early are very important.
The activity of organizing free health check-ups right at local health facilities is of great significance because it helps people access health services more easily, without having to travel far. Through check-ups, many cases of patients who have been ill for many years but have not re-examined are also detected for timely consultation and treatment, people are effectively cared for, gradually realizing Resolution 72.
