Vinh Long inaugurates modern cancer radiotherapy system, reducing pressure on the Mekong Delta

Vinh Long - On October 31, Vinh Long General Hospital held an inauguration ceremony and put into operation the modern cancer radiotherapy system using a linear accelerator.

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long Province; Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of the Department of Health of Vinh Long Province; Dr. Vo Van Kha - Director of Can Tho City Oncology Hospital; Dr. Le Tuan Anh - Director of the Oncology Center, Head of the Chemistry and radiotherapy Department of Cho Ray Hospital; and representatives of leaders of departments, branches, hospitals, medical centers in the area and medical staff and medical staff of the hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Truyen - Director of Vinh Long General Hospital shared that the inauguration and use of the radiotherapy system using linear accelerators for cancer treatment is an important milestone in the roadmap for developing specialized techniques and modernizing medical examination and treatment at Vinh Long General Hospital, meeting the increasing demand for health care of people inside and outside the province.

This is also a great step forward in the field of cancer treatment in Vinh Long province, creating conditions for people in the area to enjoy high-tech, advanced medical services without having to switch to higher levels, helping to reduce the burden of treatment costs for people. The provincial health sector is determined to develop Vinh Long General Hospital into a specialized, modern hospital, on par with the Mekong Delta region.

It is known that the radiotherapy system has been invested in a systematically since 2024 with an isolation treatment area, ensuring standards on radiation safety and infection control, including: Simulated CT scan room, planning room, main treatment area with modern accelerator and waiting - post-radyotherapy areas.

In particular, the combination of linear accelerators with modern diagnostic imaging systems such as simulated CT and MRI helps increase accuracy in tumor positioning, protect healthy tissue to the maximum and improve clinical treatment effectiveness.

The staff of the Oncology Department and related departments of the Hospital have been trained in a comprehensive manner at central hospitals, ready to operate the system in accordance with national standards, ensuring the highest safety and efficiency for patients.

Dr. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health affirmed that with a modern accelerator system, the new radiotherapy area at Vinh Long General Hospital will deploy advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT - to help accurate treatment, reduce side effects and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
