HCMC - The project to adjust the general planning to 2040, with a vision to 2040, has some weaknesses compared to the planning of HCMC for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just sent a report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the contents that need to be consulted with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to serve the work of developing a project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City to 2040, with a vision to 2060.

This project has some points that are not consistent with the Ho Chi Minh City planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that one of the important points that need to be adjusted is related to the way to determine zoning and city.

According to the submission of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and the conclusion of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, the orientation of the project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City by 2040, with a vision to 2060 to form and develop 5 zones.

These are the central urban subdivision; the eastern urban subdivision; the northern - northwest urban subdivision; the western urban subdivision; the southern urban subdivision.

However, at the end of 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1711/QD-TTg approving the planning of Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to this decision, after 2030, Ho Chi Minh City will be oriented to develop according to the model of a multi-center city, including 6 urban areas: Central urban area; Thu Duc urban area; Cu Chi - Hoc Mon urban area; Binh Chanh urban area; District 7 - Nha Be urban area; Can Gio urban area.

The detailed boundaries of each urban area will be determined based on the decision to establish an urban area approved by competent authorities. By 2050, Ho Chi Minh City will complete the model of a multi-center city.
