HCMC - Tam Thang Ward People's Committee has established an inspection team to review and assess the cracking situation on the 16th floor of a 36-storey apartment building in the area.

Check the current status of cracks in the 16th floor area

On July 27, the People's Committee of Tam Thang Ward (HCMC) established an inspection team to review the current status of the crack at PVC-IC Diamond apartment building (also known as Lapen Center apartment building, address 33A 30/4 street, Tam Thang Ward).

Therefore, the team conducted a review of the 15th and 16th floors of this apartment building, especially in the 16-08 apartment area where there were large cracks.

The survey results recorded that there were long cracks on the 16th floor girder floor; many other locations on the 16th floor also had cross-section cracks... However, the preliminary inspection using intuition did not see any cracks in the load-bearing structure.

The delegation also requested the investor to provide design drawings or complete the structure of the project for the unit to have the function of checking and evaluating. At the same time, the investor is required to have a plan to dismantle the brick wall at the cracked location to ensure safety.

Previously, the discovery of cracks in the area of the 16th floor of the Lapen Center apartment building (34 floors above ground and 2 basements) created a panic among hundreds of households living here, and people quickly reported it to the authorities.

Tam Thang Ward People's Committee quickly conducted a preliminary inspection, deployed safety measures and reported the incident to the Department of Construction, proposed to conduct an inspection and directed the remediation.

Relocating households in cracked apartments to safer apartments

Ms. Dinh Hong Nhung - apartment 16.08 of Lapen Center apartment building said that the appearance of cracks in the apartment made the family very worried. Because in addition to the crack in the bag wall corresponding to the location of the bedroom, there are a number of other cracks in the apartment.

The brick walls of many other apartments on the 16th floor also have cracks, so households are very worried. This mentality also spread to apartments on the 15th floor right below.

"For safety, we do not dare to use the bedroom where the crack is, but leave it empty. The family is preparing to move to another more stable room while waiting for the repair," said Ms. Nhung.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh - Head of Lapen Center Apartment Management Board - said that he had first mobilized people in the apartment to move to another area safely. The reasonable costs arising during the repair period will be supported by the Apartment Management Board from operating expenses.

"On the 16th floor, there are a total of 18 apartments, and currently only 16-08 apartments have been relocated. After having the results of the current assessment, we will implement according to the proposed safety measures," Mr. Manh informed.

According to the People's Committee of Tam Thang Ward, the unit also received feedback from people about the construction and installation of the embankment, part of the Ben Dinh canal dredging project, causing vibrations and shocks, affecting many apartments in the area. This construction project is about 500 m from Lapen Center apartment building.
