Vietnam's oldest town spends 330 billion VND on wastewater treatment project

Phu Tho - Phu Tho town invested 330 billion VND in the project to build a wastewater collection and treatment system.

Phu Tho town, Phu Tho province is currently the oldest town among the towns in Vietnam with over 121 years of age. The socio-economic development has been remarkable in recent years, the urbanization process has taken place rapidly, but this ancient town is facing some limitations such as: Unsynchronized technical infrastructure system, incomplete drainage system, no centralized wastewater collection and treatment system...

On November 28, 2023, the People's Council of Phu Tho town issued Decision No. 69/QD-HDND, approving the project to build a wastewater collection and treatment system in Phu Tho town, with a total investment of 330 billion VND from the state budget and other legally mobilized capital sources.

On November 30, 2024, the representative of the project management investor, the Phu Tho Town Construction Project Management Board, publicly announced the contractor selection plan and bidding packages of the above project. Previously, the project had announced the contractor selection plan twice on February 5, 2024 and September 27, 2024.

With this contractor selection plan, there are 5 packages. Of which, the Construction Package: Equipment installation, construction (including traffic assurance; power cut-off, exploitation and dumping fees, and contingency) has a value of nearly 300 billion VND; the form of contractor selection is open bidding, the implementation period is 40 months.

On December 6, informing reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the Phu Tho Town Construction Project Management Board said that the unit had issued a notice inviting bids for the above-mentioned package of nearly 300 billion VND, the bid opening time was determined to be 4:00 p.m. on December 19, 2024.

After the contractor selection results are approved, the winning bidder will construct a wastewater collection system in the three inner-city wards of Au Co, Hung Vuong and Phong Chau. The goal is to build a system to collect, transport and treat urban wastewater, and put the system into operation by 2028.

The project will create development space, contribute to completing infrastructure, improving environmental sanitation conditions, improving people's quality of life, and ensuring sustainable urban development. This is an important project in the process of building Phu Tho town to upgrade to a class II urban area - a city under the province by 2030.

According to the Planning of Phu Tho province for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1579/QD-TTg dated December 5, 2023, with priority tasks related to Phu Tho town such as: Upgrading from Phu Tho town to a city directly under the province by 2030; upgrading, expanding and improving the collection and treatment efficiency of large-scale centralized wastewater treatment systems in urban areas and industrial parks and industrial clusters to meet environmental standards; continuing to invest in building urban and rural wastewater drainage systems; collecting and treating up to standards 90% of the total amount of domestic wastewater generated in the whole province; prioritizing the project "Building a domestic wastewater collection and treatment system in Phu Tho town" in the period of 2021-2030.
