The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just directed departments, branches and localities to urgently deploy compensation, support, and resettlement work to serve the project to extend Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to the Dong Nai City Administrative Center and Long Thanh International Airport.
According to the direction, the Department of Finance presides over advising the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue a decision to separate the compensation, support, and resettlement project into an independent project; and at the same time advise on assigning investor tasks and preparing investment for the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City, to be completed before July 25, 2026.
This unit is also responsible for guiding the identification of project groups, investment decision-making authority according to regulations and advising on allocating sufficient capital sources for implementation in 2026.
Meanwhile, the Department of Planning and Architecture is assigned to take the lead in coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, Dong Nai Department of Construction and related units to urgently complete the route plan; accurately determine the scope, boundaries and area of land to be recovered in Ho Chi Minh City to serve as a basis for implementing compensation, support, resettlement and investment procedures.
At the same time, the department guides Dong Hoa Ward People's Committee to review, adjust, and update relevant planning projects, ensuring consistency with the route plan approved by competent authorities.
Dong Hoa Ward People's Committee is responsible for coordinating with the investor and relevant agencies to organize the implementation of compensation, support, and resettlement work; complete land acquisition procedures according to regulations, ensuring project progress.

Metro Line No. 1 extended has a total length of about 43.5 km, with a maximum design speed of 120 km/h.
In which, the section from Suoi Tien station to Dong Nai City Administrative Center is about 7.1 km long; the section from Dong Nai City Administrative Center to Long Thanh airport is about 36.4 km long.
The project is expected to build 6 main stations, 5 backup stations according to future development planning at traffic hubs and urban development areas in the TOD direction, along with 1 depot for management, operation, maintenance and repair of trains.
The route passes through Long Binh, Dong Hoa wards (HCMC) and Bien Hoa, Tran Bien, Long Hung, Phuoc Tan, Tam Phuoc, Nhon Trach, Long Thanh wards and An Phuoc commune (Dong Nai City).
The project has a total investment of about 65. 573 billion VND, implemented according to PPP method, BT contract; the construction part is carried out by the investor, and the state budget pays for site clearance. Expected time 2026 - 2030.
Currently, Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is nearly 20 km long, including 14 stations, including 3 underground stations, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, and has been put into commercial operation since December 2024.
According to the assessment of Dong Nai city, when phase 1 of Long Thanh airport is put into operation, it is expected that by the end of 2026, travel and passenger transportation demand will increase sharply while connectivity currently mainly depends on roads, posing a potential risk of congestion.
Therefore, the metro line directly connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Dong Nai - Long Thanh airport is expected to become a large-volume passenger transport axis, reducing road traffic pressure, and creating motivation for urban development and services according to the TOD model along the corridor.
