Lai Chau - Department of Construction adds 3 traffic diversion plans after landslide incident causing National Highway 12 to be cut off.

On July 16, Lai Chau Provincial Department of Construction issued Notice No. 3661/TB-SXD on supplementing the plan for temporary traffic diversion and organization at Km76+250, National Highway 12, in Chieng Chan village, Le Loi commune.

Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, due to prolonged heavy rain, the Km76+250 section on National Highway 12 experienced serious landslides, breaking the entire roadbed and surface, causing traffic through the area to be cut off.

To ensure traffic flow, the Department of Construction has issued Notice No. 3652/TB-SXD dated July 16, 2026 on organizing temporary traffic diversion.

According to the Department of Construction, to date, Provincial Road 127 (section from Nam Hang commune to Lai Ha bridge intersection), National Highway 32 and National Highway 279 have basically been repaired, meeting operating conditions. On that basis, the unit supplemented 3 traffic diversion plans for vehicles traveling between Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces.

Option one, vehicles from the center of Lai Chau province follow National Highway 4D to Phong Tho commune, then follow National Highway 12 to Km40 (Pa Tan commune area), turn into National Highway 4H through Pa Tan, Mu Ca communes to Muong Nhe commune (Dien Bien province), then continue to move to the center of Dien Bien province and vice versa.

The total length of the route is about 455 km, about 245 km longer than the normal route when National Highway 12 had not had an incident.

The second option, vehicles also follow National Highway 4D and National Highway 12 to Pa Tan commune, then turn into National Highway 4H to Bum To commune, continue to turn into Provincial Road 127 through Nam Hang commune to Lai Ha bridge intersection, then merge National Highway 12 to go to Dien Bien and vice versa.

This route is about 339 km long, an increase of about 129 km compared to the normal route.

The third option, from the center of Lai Chau province, vehicles follow National Highway 4D to Binh Lu commune, turn into National Highway 32 to Muong Kim intersection, then continue along National Highway 279 through Son La province to reach the center of Dien Bien province.

The total length of the route is about 293 km, about 93 km longer than the normal route.

The above traffic diversion plans are applied during the time of overcoming the landslide incident at Km76+250 on National Highway 12.

The Lai Chau Provincial Department of Construction requests organizations, individuals and vehicle operators to proactively choose routes suitable to actual conditions to ensure safety and convenience when traveling. Other contents continue to be implemented according to Notice No. 3652/TB-SXD issued earlier.
