In January 2024, to improve medical work for the team, the Vietnam Football Federation decided to establish a Sports Medicine Department directly managed by Mr. Nguyen Van Phu - Member of the Medical Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Deputy Head of the Medical Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
The establishment of the Sports Medicine Department laid the first brick in building a systematic and professional medical system of VFF.
Although newly established, in 2024, the VFF sports medicine field has operated effectively, when the Orthopedic Trauma & Sports Medicine Center was officially recognized as a Sports Medicine Center of Excellence - according to AFC standards and VFF hosted the AFC Sports Medicine Conference.
In addition, the VFF Medical Department has proactively provided training and professional training in sports medicine and anti-doping testing according to AFC standards for all medical staff serving in national teams and the VFF competition system.
In addition, VFF also invests and coordinates with leading medical units and experts to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate injuries for players.
VFF Medical Board, Sports Medicine Department coordinates with Vinmec International Hospital in receiving treatment, providing medical support for national teams, training all medical staff at athlete training units, football clubs nationwide, expanding sports medicine cooperation with medical facilities with modern equipment in treating injuries and rehabilitation for teams.
VFF's medical staff also organized and participated in health checks for national football team athletes at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center; built an investment project to complete a number of modern sports medicine equipment, meeting the health care needs of professional football athletes and providing professional sports medicine training for medical staff of VFF units.
In 2025, there will be many international activities and tournaments. VFF leaders will continue to invest in developing specialized categories of sports medicine for Vietnamese football, with the desire to develop more effectively sports medicine work, aiming to build a sufficient organizational structure of specialized departments like the model of AFC and other national football federations (Sports Medicine department; Anti-doping department; department of test results management - handling doping violations; department of handling exemptions)...
In addition, the Medical Board will continue to organize training and develop medical staff participating in the VFF organizational system, coordinate sports medicine activities and scientific research with national football federations and AFC/FIFA, aiming to develop sports medicine, especially in football, in terms of scale and quality.
