Never stop learning and creating
Graduated from Vietnam Maritime University, majoring in ship engine design and repair, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien worked at Doosan Vina Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (now Bumhan Vina Co., Ltd.).
During her time working at the company, through many positions, Ms. Hien still maintains her enthusiasm, learns knowledge from new designs of customers, from international standard requirements to design many types of super-long, super-heavy products as well as different complex special products, bringing high economic value to the company.
Recently, Ms. Hien had the initiative to "Reduce the size of the stack of the Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) by changing the thickness of the outer edge welded sheet from 6mm to 12mm".
Describing this initiative, Ms. Hien said that one of the main products of Bumhan Company is the chimney in the heat recovery boiler system of combined cycle power plants. Depending on the capacity of each combined cycle power plant as well as the environmental conditions in the country where the plant is installed, the chimney of the heat recovery boiler is usually designed with a diameter ranging from 6-15m and a height of 50-100m.
According to the customer's design, at the outer edge of each ring, a 6mm steel plate will be welded to act as an intermediate plate for welding at the construction site between the rings. This 6mm thin plate is at the edge, so when placing each product ring on the transport rack, this steel plate will be deformed and warped.
From this reality, Ms. Hien and her colleagues came up with the idea of changing the customer's design from 6mm to 12mm thick corrugated iron, increasing the stiffness of the outer sheet, allowing each chimney ring to be placed directly on the transport frame without having to expand the frame, without needing additional materials to hang the product.
The solution helps save on transportation costs, raw material purchasing costs and labor costs while still ensuring product durability, reducing warping, reducing deformation... Not to mention, applying the initiative also contributes to reducing other manufacturing stages, protecting the environment.
Bumhan Vina Co., Ltd. has applied the solution since January 2023 to all chimneys used in heat recovery boilers of Bumhan's largest customer, the American global energy corporation GE. In 2023 alone, it has been applied to 5 projects, with 3 projects exported to the US, 1 project exported to Greece (Europe) and 1 project exported to Korea (Asia), with economic efficiency reaching more than 7.2 billion VND.
Speak up for workers
In union movements and activities, as Vice President of the company's Union, Ms. Hien actively advises the company's leadership on policies to care for union members and employees, gradually increasing income and improving working conditions for employees.
Ms. Hien also takes an exemplary role in participating in activities launched by the union, typically in the emulation movement for production labor, creative labor... the movement to practice thrift and fight waste, the movement for smoke-free units... For two consecutive years, Ms. Hien was honored to have an initiative to receive the Creative Labor Certificate from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
With achievements in professional work and trade union activities, for many consecutive years, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien received certificates of merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Hai Phong City Labor Federation. In 2023, Ms. Hien won the Encouragement Prize in the Hai Phong City Workers' Technical Innovation Contest.
