In the past time, the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union has made many marks in caring for and protecting workers, promoting the emulation movement for creative labor and building a strong trade union organization.

Effectively perform the function of representing, caring for and protecting the rights of union members

Mr. Le An Hai - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade - said that in the period 2023-2025, trade union levels at all levels have focused on performing well the function of representing, caring for and protecting the legitimate and lawful rights of union members and workers. Trade unions actively participate in building policies and laws related to labor, employment, and social insurance; promote dialogue and collective bargaining at enterprises.

The Vietnam Trade and Industry Union is currently managing and directing 14 grassroots-level trade unions directly above and 474 directly affiliated grassroots trade unions, with 139,883 union members/144,896 workers, reaching a rate of 96.54% of union members/total number of workers; including 45,160 female workers.

In the period 2023-2025, 87.64% of enterprises in the Industry and Trade sector organized dialogues at workplaces; over 90% of enterprises with grassroots trade unions signed collective labor agreements, of which more than 70% of agreements had clauses that were more beneficial to workers than the provisions of law.

The work of caring for the lives of union members and workers is implemented synchronously through many practical programs such as "Tet Sum vay", "Trade Union Home", "Trade Union Meal", "Trade Union Tet Market"...

The "Trade Union Meal" program alone was organized for 74,962 union members and workers with a total budget of more than 5.88 billion VND.

During natural disasters and storms in the 2024-2025 period, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade has supported union members and workers affected with a total budget of more than 4.27 billion VND; and mobilized the entire industry to support hundreds of billions of VND to support localities and people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

During the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, with the motto "All union members and workers have Tet", the entire industry spent 131.150 billion VND for 114,527 turns of union members and workers to enjoy care activities, including: visiting and giving gifts to union members and workers: 114.205 billion VND; train trip home: 45 million VND; donating Trade Union Warm Houses: 450 million VND; Trade Union Tet Market: 101.5 million VND; Trade Union Meals: 6.462 billion VND; other activities: 9.888 billion VND. From the beginning of 2026 to now, the entire industry has not had labor disputes leading to collective work stoppages.

One of the outstanding highlights of the term is the creative labor emulation movement that continues to spread strongly throughout the industry. In the 2023-2025 period, the entire industry had approximately 450,000 initiatives with a profit value of about 55 billion VND; 150 typical projects were affixed with signs to celebrate major holidays of the country and the industry.

The movements "Good Labor", "Creative Labor", "Green - Clean - Beautiful, ensuring labor safety and hygiene", "Innovation, creativity, efficiency in trade union activities"... continue to create motivation for workers to promote initiatives, technical improvements, and improve labor productivity.

In parallel with that, training and fostering human resources is particularly focused on. In the period 2023-2025, about 100,000 turns of union members and workers were trained to improve their qualifications and professional skills, reaching about 70% of the total number of union members and workers.

This is considered an important foundation for the Ministry of Industry and Trade to adapt to digital transformation, green economic development and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Strong innovation to meet requirements in the new stage

In the 2025-2030 term, the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union determined to continue to strongly innovate the content and methods of operation in a practical and effective direction, putting union members and workers at the center.

One of the key tasks is to improve the quality of the contingent of trade union officials, build a contingent of officials with political bravery, professional qualifications, professional skills and adaptability to new requirements.

The industry trade union will continue to innovate propaganda work, promote digital transformation in trade union activities; strengthen dialogue and collective bargaining; proactively participate in building policies directly related to workers.

In particular, the patriotic emulation movement will be closely linked to digital transformation, technology innovation, green development and improving labor productivity.

According to the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union, in the context of increasingly deep integration, the quality of human resources will be a decisive factor in the competitiveness of businesses as well as the economy. Therefore, trade unions at all levels will pay more attention to training, retraining, and improving vocational skills for workers; promoting the building of a team of modern workers with industrial style and the ability to master new technologies.

Not only performing the function of caring for and protecting workers, the Vietnam Trade Union of Industry and Trade also identifies the role of accompanying businesses to remove difficulties, promote production and business, and improve competitiveness.

Accordingly, trade union levels will actively advise Party committees, coordinate with authorities and professional departments at the same level to strengthen dialogue to listen to initiatives and solutions to improve labor productivity from union members and workers.

The industry union also proposed many solutions to ensure jobs and sustainable income for workers; and at the same time promote the spirit of responsibility to accompany businesses in the context of global trade competition and complex geopolitical fluctuations.

Emulation movements for innovation, application of science and technology, and technical improvement will continue to be widely deployed to improve the efficiency of production and business and the quality of work of each union member and worker.

According to the Vietnam Trade and Industry Union, each initiative, each technical improvement or each small action for labor safety contributes to creating great value for businesses and society.

With that spirit, trade union levels and the contingent of officials and union members of the Industry and Trade sector are expected to continue to promote the pioneering role of the working class in the cause of renovation, integration and development of the country; contributing to realizing the goal of double-digit growth in 2026 and the following years according to the orientations of the Party and State.
