Attracting workers in the informal sector
Hoa Vang District Labor Federation, Da Nang City has just held a conference to propagate and mobilize the development of union members and establish a grassroots union. Accordingly, nearly 50 delegates participated in the conference from 13 independent preschool establishments in Hoa Phuoc commune, which was introduced to the Vietnamese Trade Union by the reporter; Functions and duties of trade unions and rights of workers when joining Vietnam Trade Union organization.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hoang Bach Tung - Chairman of the Hoa Vang District Labor Federation - said that the district's economic structure is shifting, leading to an increase in informal labor. This is a group of workers without contracts, low income, not participating in social insurance, and without fixed salary. This reality requires district unions to develop long-term plans to gather and protect their rights through grassroots unions.
Previously, the Trade Union of Da Nang High-Tech Park and Industrial Parks (KCNC&CKCN) also held the first Trade Union Establishment Conference of 2024. That is the Trade Union of Staami Vina Company Limited - a 100% foreign-owned enterprise, specializing in the production and processing of household goods made of stainless steel, with 70 workers.
Ms. My Ri, a worker at the company, shared: Thanks to the enthusiastic propaganda and mobilization of the Da Nang Industrial Parks and Industrial Parks Trade Union, we understand more clearly the role of the Trade Union organization. Now that the company has a union, we are really assured that we have a solid support to protect the legitimate rights of our colleagues and employees".
Along with the joy of establishing a grassroots trade union in Staami Vina, the Da Nang Industrial and Commercial Joint Stock Trade Union also organized propaganda and mobilized the establishment of a grassroots trade union at Vina Mask International Company Limited.
At the propaganda session, 50 workers of Vina Mask International Company Limited - who are working hard to produce protective clothing and medical masks - unanimously wrote an application to join the Trade Union.
According to Mr. Le Thanh Cong Danh, Vice Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Da Nang CNC Industrial Park Trade Union, the establishment of grassroots trade unions at foreign-invested enterprises such as Staami Vina and Vina Mask is a clear demonstration of the initiative and creativity of the Trade Union in approaching and mobilizing workers to participate in the organization.
Mr. Danh said that over the past two years, the Trade Union has persistently propagated, mobilized and supported workers at the enterprise. Overcoming the initial awareness barrier, the organization has convinced both employees and employers to accompany. The Trade Union is committed to always standing side by side and supporting new grassroots trade unions to operate effectively, becoming a solid support, protecting workers' rights and building harmonious and stable labor relations.
New development of 1,695 union members
Information at the conference on the establishment of grassroots trade unions and the development of union members in the first quarter of 2024 organized by the Da Nang City Labor Federation on February 2 said: as of March 26, 2024, the city's trade unions at all levels have established 25 grassroots trade unions, developing 1,695 new union members.
At this conference, participants focused on assessing the establishment of the grassroots trade union and developing union members at the city trade union levels in the first months of 2024; The difficulties and obstacles of units in the process of performing tasks at the grassroots level and through the direction and tasks of the City Labor Federation in the second quarter of 2024 on the establishment of the grassroots trade union.
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Linh - President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: In 2025, the Da Nang City Labor Federation sets a goal of increasing 31,500 union members, establishing 100% of grassroots unions in enterprises with 15 or more employees; establishing at least 1 informal labor union.
In order to achieve the set goals, in the coming time, the Da Nang Trade Union will focus on consolidating the Steering Committee for Development of Union members, completing the Database of Union Management and Labor Agreement on the software. At the same time, coordinating with social insurance to review non -state enterprises, non -business units without trade unions, especially units with 20 or more laborers, to implement the peak month to develop union members.
The goal by June 30, 2025 is to achieve at least 70% of the target of establishing grassroots trade unions, 100% of the target of establishing grassroots trade unions and admitting 50% of new union members according to the plan for 2025.
