Stable jobs, happy wood workers
In Binh Duong province, wood processing is one of the province's key export industries. In 2024, orders from Binh Duong's wood furniture manufacturing enterprises will be more numerous and more stable.
According to the forecast of Binh Duong Timber Association, this year, the province's wood processing industry can reach an export value of more than 6 billion USD, an increase of more than 20% compared to 2023. Currently, businesses are accelerating production to meet year-end orders.
This has had a positive impact, gradually changing the jobs and lives of workers. Most wood industry enterprises ensure 8 hours of work per day, with overtime for workers. Workers are also excited because their jobs are stable, and their income is better than 2 years ago.
Mr. David Giraudet - General Director of Mekong Furniture Company Limited (wooden furniture manufacturing in Phu Tan ward, Thu Dau Mot city) - said that the company is operating with about 1,000 employees. The production and business situation is stable and growing. This is the continuous effort of all employees and business leaders. The company always tries to maintain production and business activities, ensuring the lives of employees.
Ms. Kha Ngoc Dieu (born in 1981, from Hau Giang) said that in 2024, both husband and wife returned to Binh Duong to find work. Currently, she and her husband work together at Mekong Furniture Company Limited. According to Ms. Dieu, in recent months, work at the company has been quite stable, with overtime.
“Jobs and income here are more stable, especially in the last months of the year. This is the happiest thing for workers. We get to work overtime and earn more to cover our living expenses,” Ms. Dieu shared.
Textile workers work overtime
Similar to the wood industry, textile and garment enterprises also have more orders in 2024. At the end of the year, enterprises are accelerating production to meet delivery deadlines. Poong In Vina Co., Ltd. (Uyen Hung Ward, Tan Uyen City) has enough production orders for about 2,500 workers to work until April 2025. At the end of the year, enterprises are racing to work overtime to ensure orders for Tet.
According to Mr. Bui Minh Ha, Chairman of the Trade Union of Poong In Vina Co., Ltd., the company's Board of Directors is currently taking care of enough orders for workers to produce regularly. The company organizes overtime on some days of the week so that workers can earn more income. Workers are very excited because of the abundant orders.
At Hung Kiu Vietnam Garment Company Limited (Phu Chanh Industrial Park, Phu Chanh Ward, Tan Uyen City), the working atmosphere is urgent and bustling. The workshops are lit up day and night to fulfill Tet orders.
Ms. Tran Ngoc Tran - from Bac Lieu - working in the goods inspection department is very happy when talking about her job and income. After 5 months working at the company, Ms. Tran received an average income of nearly 11 million VND/month, including overtime.
“I used to work at another company in the area, working overtime a lot but the income was not high.Working here, the work is lighter, very comfortable.The food is quite delicious, ensuring good health” - this female worker said.
Ms. Thai Nguyen (44 years old, from Bac Lieu, garment worker) said that in the past two months, she has worked overtime 3 hours a day.The work is very steady, the income is quite stable.
“Working overtime at this time is great, we have more income to cover the end of the year. We are very excited” - Ms. Nguyen expressed.
Mr. Vu Thong Hiep - Chairman of the Trade Union of Hung Kiu Garment Vietnam Co., Ltd. - said that up to now, the company has achieved 100% of the production plan for the year. In addition to Tet orders, the company has orders to produce until the end of the first quarter of 2025 for 1,000 workers.
“Our company is negotiating and continuing to sign many new orders. In general, during this period, there are many orders coming to the garment industry,” said Mr. Hiep.
