After the flood, workers work overtime to produce
In early December, the production rhythm in Suoi Dau Industrial Park has gradually been restored. In many factories, the working atmosphere has stabilized, workers are less worried to focus on completing the progress.
Representatives of some businesses said that they are trying to find more resources, even balancing funds to maintain Tet bonuses, helping workers feel secure in their commitments.
Previously, many businesses were forced to temporarily suspend production for two days due to workers being isolated in flooded areas.
Mr. Dinh Quang Dong - Chairman of the Trade Union of Thong Thuan Company Limited - said that in the 2-3 days after the flood, the rate of workers able to return to work only reached 20-30%.
Statistics at Thong Thuan Company show that more than 50% of the unit's workers suffered property damage, with about 350 cases; of which 250 households had their houses flooded over 1m. However, most workers returned to work immediately after the water receded.
Ms. Do Thi Hang - a worker at Thong Thuan Company, residing in Dien Dien commune, shared that the recent flood swept away all her assets, she only had a bicycle to go to work temporarily. "Now I can only try to go to work to earn more income and gradually buy each item" - she said.
At Thong Nhat Swimming Equipment Company, the production pace has also been basically stable. According to the company's leaders, more than 50% of the company's workers live in deeply flooded areas. The first week after the flood, the company was forced to reduce capacity because workers had to focus on overcoming the consequences. Up to now, there are still some workers who cannot go to work, so the enterprise organizes overtime to ensure year-end orders, and at the same time deploys timely support policies for workers.
In Dien Phu Industrial Cluster, businesses are still both producing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
The leader of Vina Nha Trang Mechanical Company said that all machinery and factory of the company were heavily flooded, while 90% of workers suffered great damage. To keep up with the year-end orders, both businesses and workers are focusing on reconstruction and returning production activities to normal soon.
