Expectations to stabilize life with the Trade Union Social Housing
The Trade Union Social Housing Project in Giao Long Industrial Park was just started on September 30, including 699 apartments with a total capital of more than 554 billion VND, expected to be completed after 686 days of construction, opening up new housing expectations for workers. The project not only helps reduce travel pressure and living expenses but also improves the cramped living space that many worker families are suffering.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, a mechanical workshop worker, after nearly 6 years of working at Giao Long Industrial Park, still regularly travels more than 30km per day. Mr. Phuc said that his wife stays at home to take care of her elderly mother and young child, while he has to travel every day, while the cost of fuel is nearly 1 million VND/month, making family life more stressful.
"I want to rent a room near a company but the room is cramped and the house fee is high. Now that we have heard about the upcoming Union Social Housing, my wife and I are very happy, just hoping to be eligible to register to buy it" - Mr. Phuc shared.
Ms. Le Thi Hong Nhung, a garment worker in the same industrial park, rents a room of about 12 square meters with expenses, electricity, and water of more than 1 million VND/month.
"The space is tight, and my children don't have a place to play when they come home from school. If social housing is at a reasonable price, only a few hundred million VND, workers can borrow to repay it gradually, stabilize their lives, and work with peace of mind for a long time" - Ms. Nhung expressed.
The cost of renting accommodation, electricity, water, and gasoline accounts for nearly half of workers' income, making it difficult for them to save, take care of their children, and meet essential needs. Trade Union social housing is spacious, reasonable prices with institutions such as kindergartens, playgrounds, mini supermarkets, and medical points to help make life more stable and fulfilling.
Trade Union social housing improves the quality of workers' lives
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation - said that in the first phase, the implementation of Trade Union social housing projects and Trade Union institutions encountered many obstacles. Legal regulations such as the Housing Law, Land Law, and Public Investment Law are still overlapping, while there is a lack of appropriate investment mechanisms and incentive policies, causing implementation progress to not reach expectations.
However, thanks to the direction of the Party, the State, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Ben Tre province (before the merger) and the coordination of departments and branches, the problems have been gradually resolved. Trade union institutions and social housing projects are being implemented synchronously, ensuring living facilities and safety, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of workers.
The Trade Union Social Housing Project in Giao Long Industrial Park is an important milestone, demonstrating the role of the Trade Union organization in caring for the lives of workers.
This is not only a place to live, but also a cultural and social institution, helping workers feel secure in starting a business, sticking with the enterprise, contributing to stabilizing human resources and developing the province's socio-economy - Mr. Linh emphasized.
When the project is completed, thousands of workers will have the opportunity to live in a comfortable environment, near their workplace, save costs, and enjoy accompanying support institutions. This is also a testament to the long-term efforts of the Trade Union organization in accompanying and caring for the lives of union members, thereby building a stable, long-term labor force and contributing to the sustainable development of the locality.
