Workers long for stable housing
In boarding houses around Hoa Khanh Industrial Park (Da Nang City), the demand for social housing is always high. Ms. Dang Xuan Trang, a worker working here, said that her family has been renting rooms for more than 10 years. With the income of a couple of workers, buying commercial land and houses is too much. Currently, Ms. Trang has to pay about 2 - 2.5 million VND per month for room rent and electricity and water, accounting for more than 30% of the couple's total income. Ms. Trang hopes that the city will soon implement more social housing projects with reasonable prices, preferential loan mechanisms so that direct workers like her can own a small apartment, ending the scene of temporary rent.
Currently, the majority of workers in Da Nang are facing the situation of high rents while living conditions are not guaranteed. The common desire of thousands of other workers is that the city needs to have real social housing projects, locations near workplaces and transparent and convenient application review procedures so that low-income people can truly have access.
Nearly 5,000 social housing apartments completed in 2026
According to Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam - Director of Da Nang City Department of Construction, in 2025, the city completed 5 projects with 2,907 apartments, reaching 108% of the target assigned by the Government. The City People's Committee has reviewed and selected 46 land plots with a total area of 134ha that meet the feasible conditions for social housing development in the period 2025-2030, with an expected scale of about 42,700 apartments.
In 2026, the city is determined to complete 4,979 apartments. This is a very large target, about 2 times higher than in 2025.
To achieve this figure, the Department of Construction has advised the City People's Committee to issue a Plan to implement the Project "Investing in building at least 1 million social housing apartments" for the period 2025-2030 with a specific roadmap, and at the same time, the city assigned the Development Investment Fund to perform the functions of the Housing Fund to support capital for implementation.
At the beginning of 2026, one of the typical projects being implemented is the Ecohome Hoa Hiep project with a total of 1,476 apartments (391 apartments in social housing block 1 and 1,085 apartments in social housing block 2). This project started receiving applications to buy houses from March 18 to 18. The temporary selling price of apartments here is about 20.8 million VND/m2 (including VAT and maintenance fees). The subjects eligible to buy houses include people with meritorious services to the revolution, low-income people, workers working in industrial parks and officials and civil servants according to the provisions of the Housing Law.
Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam affirmed that the Construction sector will focus on administrative procedure reform, putting social housing projects into the "green channel" to shorten appraisal and licensing time. The city will also review and propose to increase population planning targets in the Northern region (old Da Nang) and promote investment attraction in the Southern region (old Quang Nam) to ensure a diverse housing supply for workers.
