On March 22, all workers of Zonsen International Packaging Company Limited - Nghe An Branch (Nam Cam Industrial Park) returned to normal work after the enterprise agreed to increase the basic salary from VND 4,410,000 to VND 4,950,000/month.
This is the result of a dialogue between the company's leaders and workers on the afternoon of March 21, under the supervision of the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board and the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union.
Previously, on the morning of March 21, 72 workers out of a total of 140 employees of the company organized a collective work stoppage, requesting a salary increase and improving working conditions. According to workers, the current salary is not enough to cover living expenses, while neighboring businesses have increased salaries for workers.
In addition to the request to increase the basic salary from VND 4,410,000 to VND 4,950,000/month, workers also recommended increasing the allowance for diligence from VND 200,000 to VND 300,000/month, reducing overtime from 4-5 hours/day to a more reasonable level and not arbitrarily laying off workers when orders decrease.
In particular, workers reflected that the company's application of a fine of VND300,000/fault was inappropriate, due to the majority of errors arising from work progress pressure.
Immediately after the incident, the Southeast Economic Zone Management Board, the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union and relevant agencies were present to listen to and resolve the situation. The working group requested the company to organize a public dialogue with workers to resolve the recommendations.
At the meeting, the company representative said that he had asked for the business owner's opinion and pledged to respond to the recommendations on March 24, 2025. However, on the afternoon of March 21, the company issued a notice to increase the basic salary to VND 4,950,000 in April 2025. After receiving this information, all workers agreed to return to work on the morning of March 22.
According to some workers, they have previously made many recommendations about salary increases but have not been met. In particular, when employees requested a dialogue from February 2025, the company did not respond, even locking the feature of sending messages in the internal Zalo group.
The representative of the Southeast Economic Zone Trade Union commented that this incident is the result of not being able to build harmonious labor relations, lacking listening and dialogue with workers. Previously, the working group pointed out many shortcomings in the company's compliance with labor laws such as not building salary scales and salary tables in accordance with regulations, not ensuring occupational safety and hygiene and not organizing labor conferences.
The Southeast Economic Zone Management Board affirmed that it will strengthen inspection of compliance with labor laws at enterprises in the area, ensuring a safe and stable working environment for employees, and at the same time request enterprises to learn from this incident.
