From rural labor to unskilled employment
The bright spot in Dong Thap's human resource development strategy is the focus on orientation and vocational training associated with practical needs. The programs are flexibly designed, especially focusing on training farmers in farming techniques, helping to access modern farming methods, towards sustainable poverty reduction.
For example, the family of Mr. Lam Hong Chau (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap) used to live in a makeshift tree house, belonging to a poor household. Thanks to local support capital to grow velvet grass, his family has a spacious home. He said that the price of velvet grass ranges from 14,000 - 18,000 VND/m2, after deducting costs, each harvest brings a profit of more than ten million VND.
"With a stable life, I am now guiding people to learn to follow, with the orientation of expanding the planting area in the coming time" - Mr. Chau said.
Farmer Le Duy Minh (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province) also stabilized his economy after borrowing capital to invest in growing ornamental flowers and rebuilding a spacious house. Mr. Minh also proactively returned the books to poor households, giving support to other families.
It is known that according to the Agricultural Vocational Training Plan for rural workers in 2025, Dong Thap province focuses on training 3,317 rural agricultural workers; training for cooperative directors for 40 workers. Also in recent years, due to market changes, the return of a large part of the workforce has created an urgent need for job creation in Dong Thap. Seizing the opportunity of resources, the Employment Service Center (now located under the Department of Home Affairs of Dong Thap province) has proactively increased the bridge for many workers to find jobs in companies and enterprises with stable income.
At Dai Phat Garments Company Limited (My Dong Commune, Thap Muoi District), thanks to the support of the unit, Ms. Le Thi Thao Nhi (24 years old, returning from Ho Chi Minh City) was soon hired to work in the packaging stage. With a salary of around 10 million VND/month (depending on work productivity) along with many levels of support for gasoline, accommodation... Ms. Nhi is worried about farming.
"The air is fresh, I have more time to be close to my family. All will bring warmth, relieve all stress after a tiring day at work" - Ms. Nhi confided.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Han - Executive Director, Dai Phat Garments Company Limited - highly appreciated the connection of the Employment Service Center. At the same time, the unit also visited and encouraged workers to have more motivation to work with high productivity.
Continue to promote sending workers abroad
A highlight in Dong Thap's human resource development ecosystem is the encouragement of workers to work abroad under contracts. This is considered an effective solution to the problem of quality employment, helping workers accumulate experience, improve skills and create capital for startups.
As a province with few natural resources, Dong Thap has determined to promote human resources as a breakthrough for development, including the content of sending workers abroad to work - Mr. Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province - shared.
After many years, dozens of stories of provincial workers returning to the country have become typical characters for Dong Thap's motto "go to work for hire - return to be the boss". Among them, there are people starting a business with a production facility, creating more jobs for many local workers.
Also after each trip, Dong Thap leaders directly conveyed "real people - real things" to departments, localities, and media agencies. Thereby strengthening public trust and guiding a series of Japanese and Korean companies to Dong Thap to find trusted partners.
According to the 2025 Plan, Dong Thap aims to create jobs for at least 30,000 workers, in which it strives to send at least 2,000 people to work abroad under contracts.
