Lecturers struggle to make ends meet, waiting to pay every penny overtime
Reflecting information to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, many lecturers working at Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College expressed their frustration: For the past 10 years, dozens of lecturers of the school have been owed overtime teaching fees, allowances and recently even their official salaries. The total amount of overtime pay, salaries... is about 6.3 billion VND, including overtime pay in school years since 2015.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a lecturer working at the school said that he was accepted to teach at Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College since 2015. Before 2018, his salary was only 2.2 million VND/month, so he tried very hard to get up overtime in the hope of having more income to cover living expenses, but unexpectedly the school owed him for a long time.
Vocational training is very difficult because it involves machinery, not teaching theory like high school, so it affects health and labor safety. From 2015 to now, the school owes me overtime tuition, salary... about 140 million VND" - a lecturer said.
Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College has 117 officials and employees. The target is to enroll about 950 students per year, however, the actual enrollment rate is only about 80%. According to regulations, each student studying at the school must pay about 18.5 million VND/year in tuition fees. For those who are exempted from tuition fees, the State will reallocate funds to schools.
Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee directs inspection
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Vo Dinh Ta - Principal of Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College said that from 2023, according to the policy, the school must be 100% financially independent. In the period from 2015 to 2018, the school owed lecturers about 936 million VND in overtime. In 2024, overtime debt will be over 1.3 billion VND.
On average, the school spends more than 1.4 billion VND per month to pay salaries to officials and workers. The scene only paid 50% of the June 2025 salary. The salary for July 2025 and the allowances, phone, work fees... have not been paid to lecturers and employees.
The school will pay wages to cadres, civil servants and workers in August 2025 - Mr. Vo Dinh Ta said.
Regarding the Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College owing overtime pay, wages...to civil servants and employees, on July 28, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Finance and relevant agencies and units to urgently review and inspect.
Specifically report the process and results of implementing the instructions of competent authorities on relevant recommendations of Vietnam - Korea - Quang Ngai College in the past time, the contents of difficulties and problems (if any). On that basis, synthesize the report and propose the Provincial People's Committee to consider and direct in accordance with regulations before August 10, 2025.
