Equipped with legal knowledge
The conference aims to equip legal knowledge, skills in organizing and operating trade unions, helping cadres grasp the role of representing and protecting the legitimate rights of workers in the new situation.
At the conference, delegates were provided with basic content of the 2024 Trade Union Law along with the 2024 Social Insurance Law. The main contents include the right to join the Trade Union, the right to supervise, provide social criticism, negotiate and sign collective labor agreements, dialogue, dispute resolution, as well as skills in disseminating labor law.
Reporter Le Dinh Quang - former Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, member of the Drafting Committee of the Trade Union Law, informed about new points of the Trade Union Law (amended). Some notable points include: Expanding the scope of regulation, allowing employees without labor relations to join the Trade Union; including the concept of "grassroots trade union" in the Law; Foreign employees are also allowed to join the Vietnam Trade Union; adding the right to supervision and social criticism; adjusting cases of exemption, reduction, and suspension of trade union fee payment.
In parallel with the Trade Union Law, the conference also introduced new points of the revised Law on Social Insurance in 2024, including adding social pension benefits; expanding the subjects participating in compulsory social insurance and voluntary social insurance; changing regulations on enjoying sick leave; adding maternity and work accident benefits to voluntary social insurance.
Trade Union officials are also instructed on how to manage, operate and promote programs and activities related to employee rights, in accordance with legal regulations, to ensure practical effectiveness in Trade Union work at the grassroots level.
Strengthening the role of the Trade Union at the grassroots level
Immediately after the conference, many union officials expressed their agreement and actively acquired knowledge. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy - Chairman of the Trade Union of Sansei Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tan Truong Industrial Park) shared: The conference helps us clearly understand the rights and responsibilities of employees and the Trade Union, while practicing negotiation, dialogue and practical supervision skills. This is an important basis for protecting the rights of employees at the grassroots level".
Mr. Pham Dinh Hoa - Chairman of the Trade Union of Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited emphasized the importance of disseminating the Law on Social Insurance to workers: " Providing legal knowledge on social insurance to employees helps them protect their legitimate rights, while raising awareness of rights and obligations in labor relations".
The 2024 Trade Union Law Training Conference in Hai Phong is not only an opportunity to foster legal knowledge but also an opportunity for Trade Union officials to improve their capacity, link practical experience with theory, contribute to building a strong Trade Union organization, and protect the rights of workers more proactively and effectively in the new period.
