On April 19, Mr. Hoang Lien - Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial Labor Federation - said that the unit had just contributed comments to amend and supplement the 2024 Trade Union Law.
In particular, the unit sent delegates to attend a conference to give comments organized by the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee.
The delegates are leaders and representatives of professional departments, union officials with a good understanding of the law, and are assigned in-depth research to give their opinions.
Along with direct comments, we also sent a document to the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to give comments on this draft revised Trade Union Law, Mr. Hoang Lien added.
Accordingly, the unit basically agreed with the layout and content of the Draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Trade Union Law in 2024. In addition, Lam Dong Provincial Federation of Labor proposed to keep the phrase "social supervision and criticism" in Article 1 unchanged. Because this is one of the groups of functions, tasks, and powers of the Vietnam Trade Union.
This task has been stated in the Regulations on supervision and social criticism of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations according to Decision No. 217-QD/TW, dated December 12, 2013 of the Politburo (11th tenure).
The document commenting from the Lam Dong Provincial Federation of Labor stated that removing the phrase "social supervision and criticism" in Article 1, the Trade Union will not be chaired but will only participate in social supervision and criticism.
Thus, the role of the Trade Union in representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers will be blurred due to passiveness.
The unit also pointed out that keeping the phrase "social supervision and criticism" in Article 1 will ensure consistency with the activities of presiding over social supervision and criticism in Articles 16 and 17 of this draft Law.
