On November 18, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the working delegation had a working session with the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and departments and branches on the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions in the area in 2024.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Le Van Hoa - Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor - informed that currently, the whole province has 1,652 grassroots trade unions, with about 154,883 union members. Of which, the State sector has 792 grassroots trade unions with 37,018 union members; the non-State sector has 860 grassroots trade unions with 117,865 union members.
Since the beginning of the year, the locality has focused on implementing many solutions to develop union members and establish new grassroots unions. Up to now, 16,777 union members have been added, but the number of union members has decreased by 7,538 (60 grassroots unions were dissolved), so the actual increase has only reached 9,239/12,400 union members (about 74% of the plan); of which, union members have only reached 235/400 (about 58% of the plan).
At the same time, trade unions at all levels introduced 1,797 outstanding union members for the Party to consider admission, thereby organizing the admission of 793 party members...
According to Mr. Hoa, despite many efforts, the work of developing union members and establishing new trade unions in Ba Ria - Vung Tau still faces difficulties due to many reasons such as the impact of the world situation causing difficulties for businesses, leading to job cuts or dissolution; a small number of workers moving; difficulty in managing union members in the informal sector...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Party Committee affirmed that the locality always pays attention to and focuses on promoting the development of union members and establishing grassroots trade unions in both quantity and quality; through a series of specific and regularly implemented activities.
At the same time, assign tasks to the Provincial Federation of Labor to continue to closely monitor the labor situation; review and promote the establishment of new grassroots trade unions; through practical and effective activities to attract workers to participate in trade unions; complete the set targets and plans.
"I hope that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will continue to pay attention, guide and direct the provincial trade union to successfully complete the work of developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions in the area. At the same time, consider the situation to assign targets in 2025 in accordance with local realities" - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thi Yen suggested.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu highly appreciated the activities of the Trade Unions at all levels of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, which have made great efforts to complete assigned tasks with outstanding results.
In recent times, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has been a typical locality in caring for workers' lives; the labor relations situation in the area is stable. In which, the close attention and direction of local Party committees and authorities are indispensable.
Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu suggested that the provincial Confederation of Labor continue to synchronously implement solutions to develop union members and establish new grassroots unions, but they need to operate effectively.
Carry out propaganda work well, grasp the labor situation, ensure stability, especially in the last months of the year. At the same time, continue to carry out well the work of representing, caring for, protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of workers...
"I hope that in addition to the attention and care of the trade union, the province will also allocate more funds to support workers in difficult circumstances; the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, departments and branches will continue to pay more attention and support the activities of the trade union organization, so that the trade union can contribute more and better to the development of the locality," said Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu.
