Timely support for workers
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duan (born in 1976) is currently the Chief of Office of the Party Committee, Council and Unions of Hue University, Secretary of the Hue University Council, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, Chairman of the Hue University Trade Union. As a senior lecturer, directly teaching in class, he still devotes himself to trade union activities to contribute to bringing more benefits to union members and workers.
Speaking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on November 19, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duan said that becoming a union official gives him the opportunity to care more about others. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duan still remembers that in 2000, when he had just graduated from school, he was admitted to the Union organization.
“Becoming a union member, I always received the attention of the faculty union during my illness, flood damage and other happy and sad events. From what I received, I have a simple thought that working in the union is to bring joy to others and until now I still keep this thought when performing the duties of a union officer” - Associate Professor, Dr. Duan shared.
In 2002, he was elected as the union chairman of the department. As a young, single cadre, he still had to study to improve his professional skills, but he was still very enthusiastic about his duties as union chairman.
Being a union official is bringing joy to others.
After moving to management work at Hue University, in 2015, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duan was elected to the Executive Committee, Standing Committee and elected Chairman of Hue University Trade Union.
As Chairman of Hue University Trade Union, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duan has guided and directed the grassroots trade unions (CDCS) under the University to continue to perform well the representative role of the trade union; participate in building policies and mechanisms; organize well the activities to care for civil servants and employees (VC, NLD) to ensure their lives, salary policies and incomes are stable and have units that are increasing; proactively grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members, propose support mechanisms, fully implement policies and welfare benefits for VC, NLD.
Through many diverse and rich forms, trade unions at all levels in Hue University proactively coordinate with the government to effectively perform the function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of civil servants and employees; organize regular dialogues between unit leaders and civil servants and employees. Legal consultancy work has been focused on, some units have organized legal consultancy teams and conducted legal aid consultations for civil servants and employees. In addition, many affiliated trade unions have proactively researched and proposed to the government solutions to gradually improve working conditions, enhance the material and spiritual life of civil servants and employees, etc.
During the 2021-2022 to 2022-2023 school years, Hue University Trade Union has allocated 685 million VND to support 332 employees and workers in especially difficult circumstances, suffering from serious illnesses, deaths due to accidents, termination of labor contracts, and severe damage due to floods... Most recently, Hue University Trade Union, together with the Director of Hue University, called on employees and workers of Hue University to contribute nearly 1 billion VND to support people in the North to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 (Yagi)...
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duan, the longer he has been a union official, the more deeply he understands and sees the important position of the union organization and union officials.
“But what I enjoy most is taking care of, showing concern for, and encouraging my colleagues and others in the community, which ultimately means bringing joy to others. And when others are happy, I will be happy,” Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duan shared.
