Earlier this year, Google deployed AI cases for Search users in the US and now, a popular but controversial tool about its accuracy, is about to arrive in the UK. Although Google's AI Overview feature has been introduced in the UK since last summer, the new AI mode offers a more interactive conversation experience, with fewer links to other websites.
AI mode uses Google's Gemini 2.5 model to create detailed replies, helping users compare products, plan trips or ask multiple-choice questions more intuitively. Users are able to activate this feature by clicking "AI still" and can ask questions via text, voice, or image.
The highlight of AI cases is the technique of "dissolving queries", simultaneously performing many related searches on many different subtopics and data sources, then synthesizing the results. However, Google admits that the tool still has the risk of creating hallucinations and is facing the problem of the clicking ratio on traditional search results decreasing by nearly 50%. According to the Pew Research Center, only 8% of users click on regular search results when there is an AI summary, compared to 15% when there is none.
In addition to expanding in the UK, Google is also updating December AI still with image processing capabilities, helping users ask detailed questions about photos similar to those on mobile devices. In the coming weeks, Google will add PDF download support, allowing users to request summaries or ask questions based on long documents such as academic documents or work reports.
In addition, Google deploys the Canvas feature in AI Mode Labs testing in the US a dashboard that synthesizes information related to a topic, allowing users to interact and fine-tune questions continuously. In addition, the Live Search on mobile will support video input, allowing users to ask questions based on images from the camera. Chrome will also integrate Lens to create an overview of what's on the screen, from the website to PDF documents.
Google confirmed that the PDF image upload and enhancement features will be available in the US, India and the UK, expanding the intuitive AI experience for global users.
