Vietnamese businesses prioritize outsourcing when deploying SOC

According to Kaspersky's research, most Vietnamese businesses choose to outsource at least part of the Network Security Operations Center (SOC).

SOC outsourcing trend in Vietnam

In Vietnam, the trend of prioritizing outsourcing SOC models and hybrid models is currently clearer than the global scale. Research by Kaspersky Security Company shows that nearly 96% of businesses in Vietnam plan to outsource at least part of SOC operations, of which the majority (59%) choose the hybrid model, and 37% are aiming to deploy SOCs entirely in the form of services (SOCaaS).

Outsourcing SOC allows businesses to authorize certain specific functions, or even the entire SOC operation cycle, to a trusted provider. Authorized tasks are often very diverse, including:

SOC architecture design and construction

Deployment, operation and maintenance of SOC technologies

Security monitoring and analysis by team of outside experts

Consulting and professional training

Providing a complete SOCaaS package, in which the provider continuously undertakes 24/7 activities of detecting, investigating and responding to incidents.

According to Kaspersky experts, the SOC outsourcing model shows clearer flexibility and decisiveness. Domestic businesses show significantly higher willingness when authorizing functions such as: Deploying and installing security solutions, developing and providing solutions, and designing SOC are the most outsourced items.

The SOC outsourcing context in Vietnam also reflects priorities. Vietnamese businesses tend to outsource more for positions specializing in technology, including security engineers, development teams and threat hunters - positions specializing in investigation and detection of sophisticated attacks.

This shows that domestic businesses depend on external partners to compensate for specialized SOC skills, in the context of limited high-quality human resources.

Why do businesses choose to outsource SOC?

According to research, one of the main motivations why Vietnamese businesses choose to outsource SOC is the need for 24/7 continuous protection as the top factor.

This is an operating requirement that many internal teams can hardly maintain for a long time. Another important benefit mentioned by many Vietnamese businesses is reducing the workload for the internal IT security (information technology) team, creating conditions for this team to focus more on strategic tasks.

In addition, access to advanced security solutions and technologies is clearly appreciated higher in Vietnam, with 80% of businesses considering this a key factor. In addition, budget optimization is also of concern to Vietnamese businesses when outsourcing SOC.

For businesses planning to build SOCs, Kaspersky recommends:

- Cooperation with comprehensive consulting services right from the initial stage or when upgrading existing SOC operations, helping businesses build solid SOCs and optimize operating processes.

- Improve security efficiency with the SIEM solution, supported by advanced AI capabilities. This solution collects, analyzes and stores log data across the entire information industry infrastructure, while adding context and providing intelligence information directly for threat detection and handling.

- Protect businesses from many different types of threats with advanced solutions, providing real-time protection capabilities, monitoring, investigation and response through EDR and XDR, suitable for all scales and industries.

- Equip the network security team with the ability to deeply observe threats targeting organizations.
