Jamie Aspinall - Product Director of Google Photos has just spoken out on social network X to respond to some complaints related to this feature.
"Ask Photos has not yet met expectations for quality and user experience," Aspinall admitted.
Therefore, Google is temporarily suspending the feature for the majority of users. A new, improved version is expected to be released in about two more weeks.
Ask Photos was introduced at last year's I/O conference and began opening limited trial access in September. This feature takes advantage of Google's Gemini chatbot to find photos in users' libraries based on natural language queries.
However, like many other technology giants, Google is having a hard time integrating AI into its services. The AI Overviews feature on search engines has caused controversy because of its unreasonable results, while the AI photo creation tool has also been criticized for producing many confusing images. Even internally, Google is having mixed opinions about the company's AI strategy.
