The lawsuit alleges that Google collected data from children watching videos on YouTube. Although this form of data collection has become popular, collecting data from children under 13 years old is still illegal under COPPA law.

Although Google will settle the lawsuit, the company has denied the allegations. Techcrunch said there are a chance that up to 45 million people in the US will be eligible for small payments from the lawsuit. That includes anyone in the US who watched YouTube under 13 between July 1, 2013 and April 1, 2020.
