According to Reuters, the Wall Street Journal, Huawei has approached a number of Chinese technology companies to test the technical feasibility of a new chip called the Ascend 910D.
The Chinese company hopes that the latest version of the Ascend AI processor will be more powerful than Nvidia's H100 chip. Huawei's latest AI chip models are expected to officially launch in late May and be available to customers in China.
Huawei and other Chinese companies have faced many challenges in developing AI chips, to compete with Nvidia. The American company is a giant in the AI chip market, which is used in training models, in which data is included in algorithms to help them make the most accurate decisions.
Some of Nvidia's leading AI chips such as the Nvidia H20 and AMD MI308 have been banned from sale to China by the US. To reduce its dependence on AI chip manufacturing technology, Huawei has accelerated the creation of powerful products.
Before planning to launch the Ascend 910D chip, in August 2023, Huawei shocked the entire industry when launching the Mate 60 Pro smartphone equipped with the Kirin 10.000s chipset.
The use of a Huawei-made main processor, designed by the company's HiSilicon chip unit and manufactured by SMIC using the 7nm process, is considered a major victory of Huawei over US export control measures.
