Last month, Instagram announced Edits - a new video editing app for mobile platforms, designed to compete directly with CapCut (owned by ByteDance, the company behind TikTok).
Initially, Meta ( Instagram owner) promised to launch the app on March 13, but it appeared that the release date would be delayed.
According to the App Store's pre-booking page, the Edits app is now scheduled to launch on March 31, 2025, two weeks later than originally planned.
Meta has not yet given an official reason for the delay.
The Edits app was introduced by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri. It is described as a tool for those who are enthusiastic about making videos with phones.
According to Mosseri, Edits is a comprehensive creative toolkit, providing many attractive features such as higher quality cameras for direct video recording or all the necessary editing tools, from cutting together to color adjustment...
Notably, Edits was released on the same day that TikTok and CapCut were banned in the US. In the context of Instagram investing heavily in the Reels platform - a direct competitor to TikTok in the short video segment, developing a professional video editing tool is completely understandable.
