On October 13, an international workshop on "Auditing in the new era - Improving auditing capacity with AI" was held by the State Audit of Vietnam (SAV) in coordination with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
The event focused on discussing the role of state audits in promoting transparency, accountability and public financial management; sharing experiences in applying technology, big data, and artificial intelligence to auditing activities; and at the same time strengthening cooperation between the State Audit and the private sector to improve auditing capacity for complex projects.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Bui Quoc Dung - Deputy State Auditor General - emphasized: "AI is reshaping all industries, from manufacturing, finance, to healthcare, education and auditing. With the mission of ensuring transparency and accountability in public administration, the State Audit is not left out of that flow.
According to Mr. Dung, the appearance of artificial intelligence and big data analysis helps auditors "scan and analyze the entire data set, thereby raising the level of assurance, reducing subjective bias and increasing consistency in assessment".

Referring to the innovation journey of the State Audit Office, he said that the State Audit Office has proactively built a large data platform, connected and shared with the Ministry of Finance, Social Insurance of Vietnam, and the State Bank; created a data warehouse of more than 100 million records for auditing analysis. Six AI-based software are being deployed in areas such as budgeting, public investment and green spending assessment.
AI does not replace auditors, but makes auditors stronger, more accurate and more in-depth, said Mr. Dung.
The workshop affirmed the inevitable trend of applying artificial intelligence, big data and digital technology in public audits. These tools not only support faster detection of violations but also help predict risks, improve monitoring efficiency and policy recommendation quality.
The core value of auditing is independence, objectivity and transparency that will never change. AI is only truly meaningful when used to serve the truth, justice and the trust of society, Mr. Dung affirmed.
