According to new data from analytics firm Similarweb, the Meta AI application on iOS and Android has seen strong growth after Meta launched a short AI video source called "Vives". As of October 17, the number of daily active users of the application reached 2.7 million, more than three times higher than the 775,000 people at the time a month ago.
The number of downloads of the application has also increased rapidly, reaching about 300,000 per day, while in the past few weeks this number was only below 200,000. Notably, in the same period in 2024, Meta AI only had about 4,000 downloads per day. This shows the platform's outstanding growth rate this year.
Similarweb said it has not yet found a clear link between this growth and advertising or search activities, but did not rule out the possibility that Meta is promoting the application via Facebook or Instagram. However, the main reason is believed to be the "Vives" feature. This is a short video source created by artificial intelligence, released on September 25.
The "Vibes" boom came as OpenAI introduced the Sora video creation tool, which quickly topped the App Store. Some experts say that attention to Sora can make users curious and turn to Meta AI to compare experiences. In addition, Sora's limited testing may unintentionally prompt users to switch to Meta AI as an alternative.

As of October 17, Meta AI recorded an increase of 15.58% of active daily users globally, while rivals such as ChatGPT, Grok and Perplexity all decreased by 3.51%, 7.35% and 2.39%, respectively.
With this strong growth momentum, Meta AI is showing its ambition to compete directly in the field of artificial intelligence, especially in short videos. This is where AI not only creates content, but also brings a new interactive entertainment experience to users.
