A new feature in the iOS 26 update is making many iPhone users worried about privacy.
The Apple Maps app can now automatically track and save locations you've visited through the Visited Places feature, which is enabled by default after the update.
According to Apple, this feature makes it easy for users to review, arrange or go back to their favorite locations, while also allowing location sharing with others.
However, many people feel uneasy when all their movements are stored. Although Apple claims data is end-to-end encrypted, tracking personal journeys still makes many people worry that privacy could be violated if the device is illegally accessed.
The Visited Locations feature works by recording all the locations users pass through and creating a list of frequently occurring locations.
This data is then saved directly on the device, making it faster to navigate and search for old locations.
But if you don't want Apple Maps to continue tracking your journey, turning off this feature is completely gone in just a few steps.
How to turn off the Visited Location feature on iPhone:
- Open Settings on iPhone.
- Select Map (Maps).
- click on Location.
- scroll down, find the Visited Places option and turn off the switch.
After turned off, Apple Maps will stop saving your travel history. In addition, users can delete all previously recorded data to ensure privacy.
How to delete the history of "Visited locations":
- Open the Apple Maps app.
- Access Location → visited Location.
-oll down and select clear History, then confirm Delease everything.
This task will erase all location history, ensuring that your device no longer leaves traces of previous passing through.
The Visited Location feature is designed to provide convenience in the browsing experience, but it is also a reminder for users to proactively control personal privacy.
In the digital age, knowing how to manage location data, even the smallest, is still an important step to protect yourself from the risk of being tracked or exploited for unwanted data.
