OpenAI - the company behind ChatGPT and backed by Microsoft - has achieved annual revenue of up to 12 billion USD, equivalent to about 1 billion USD per month.
This is a figure disclosed in a new report, citing an unnamed source and showing that the company's revenue doubled in just the first seven months of the year.
Currently, OpenAI has about 700 million weekly active users on ChatGPT products, including individual and corporate customers. Despite strong growth in revenue, this company also raised its 2025 "money burning" forecast to about 8 billion USD, 1 billion USD higher than the figure given at the beginning of the year.
The report also said OpenAI is raising capital for the second phase of a $30 billion capital call round. Shareholders such as Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management have committed to investing hundreds of millions of USD in this round. Total investment commitments in the second part have reached nearly 7.5 billion USD.
Japanese corporation softBank is one of the key investors, with a total agreed investment in OpenAI of up to 32 billion USD since the fall of 2024.
