Reddit has announced an expansion of AI-powered search to five new languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese.
With this update, the feature is already available in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Italy, expanding access to non-English speaking users.
Users who have set one of these languages as the default can now chat with AI in Q&A format, helping them search for information faster and interact more directly. Reddit uses Google's AI model to support this feature.
The AI-powered search feature was first launched last year and is part of Reddit Answers, which works in parallel with the platform's traditional search system.
In a recent quarterly earnings report, CEO Steve Huffman said Reddit has more than 70 million users accessing searches per week, while Reddit Answers attract more than 6 million users.
Mr. Huffman also emphasized the plan to merge the search experience to improve interaction and convenience for users.
The search interface combined with Q&A has become increasingly popular since ChatGPT integrated web search capabilities
Major platforms like Google and Brave have deployed similar features to increase engagement and retain users.
Meanwhile, startups like Perplexity are also thriving with a search model based on a conversation interface, proving that the interactive AI trend is becoming a new standard for the search experience.
Reddit said the expansion will not only make it easier for users globally to access information, but also increase the ability to interact directly with the community.
With AI-powered search, this social networking platform hopes to enhance the user experience while maintaining a competitive position in the context of rapidly developing traditional search engines and AI.
