The data was provided by market research firm Omdia. According to them, the combined online video and traditional television market, including subscription revenue, on-demand transactions and advertising, is on track to reach annual revenue of $1 trillion by 2030.
Almost all of the growth comes from online videos. Global video streaming revenue is expected to reach 214.6 billion USD by 2025, equivalent to an annual growth rate of 12.8%.
Online video registration revenue will account for 77% of total revenue. Payment advertising revenue - whether through online TV services SVOD/AVOD lai, original AVOD, FAST or broadcasting channels, is expected to reach a total of 42.1 billion USD worldwide, up 15.6% compared to 2024.
Mr. Adam Thomas - Head of Practice Group at Omdia - said: "Although traditional pay TV is in decline globally, this process is slow. Pay TV will continue to contribute significantly to revenue for many years.
Combined with the strong and continuous growth of online videos, this creates a very positive outlook and leads to Omdia's prediction that the total revenue of these two markets will reach 1,000 billion USD by 2030".
Meanwhile, analyst Tony Gunnarsson emphasized: Online posting is still mainly a form of business by registration, and by 2025, the total number of fee-paying registrations will continue to grow steadily.
However, there is an upcoming warning: by 2030, this market will continue to expand, but the expected annual growth rate will be lower for premium streaming services, reflecting the fact that streaming services have reached the level of penetration of the mass market globally.
Omdias new research shows that the role of advertising for both SVOD ( video as a registered requirement) and streaming in general will continue to grow by 2030. By that year, advertising revenue from the US "year of major SVOD services" (Net Netflix, Amazon, Disney, HBO Max and Paramount) is expected to reach 24.3 billion USD, equivalent to 20% of total revenue, up from 13% in 2025.
