On the morning of December 17, the Department of Information Technology Industry (IT) - Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City and related units organized a Workshop on "Building policies and solutions to promote the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry".
The workshop attracted the participation of more than 150 delegates from state management agencies, departments, organizations operating in the semiconductor industry, and domestic and foreign semiconductor experts.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in particular has been implemented over the past time.
Ho Chi Minh City with its new look after the merger has converged 3 favorable factors to develop the semiconductor industry. In particular, the center of Ho Chi Minh City will play a key role in R&D (research and development), providing high-quality human resources. The center of Ho Chi Minh City is home to the National University, the High-Tech Park (SHTP), as well as chip design and talent training centers.

Meanwhile, the production infrastructure will be concentrated in Binh Duong (formerly), where there is a large clean land fund, stable electricity and water, suitable for large-scale production plants.
In Ba Ria - Vung Tau (formerly) and the surrounding area, there is a major logistic artery, with Cai Mep - Thi Vai port and Long Thanh airport creating a super-fast supply chain for refined materials.
HCMC is committed to always listening, always accompanying and serving businesses with the spirit of investors' success in the development of the city. Today's workshop is a precious opportunity to listen, discuss, and give advice to have a common voice and act together in the upcoming period of strong development," Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized.
A representative of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City shared about the core challenges to develop the semiconductor industry in the locality. Accordingly, the local supply chain is still weak, dependent on the import of materials and chemicals.
Domestic enterprises have not participated deeply in the global value chain. There is still a shortage of high-quality human resources, especially good design engineers and core technology experts with practical experience. In addition, high investment costs and specific infrastructure require huge capital that the current financial mechanism has not been able to activate.
In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will have key support policies on infrastructure, research and development, supporting industries and attracting talent with the goal of training 9,000 engineers by 2030, inviting international experts to teach directly. Ho Chi Minh City also focuses on the production of specialized chips (IoT, AI, Smart Urban).
Ho Chi Minh City will not spread out, prioritize products with local advantages. In addition, the locality also has a testing mechanism to reduce administrative barriers, upgrade research and development, new materials, strongly link with the international community...
