At the recent Google I/O 2025 event, Google officially announced the integration of AI Gemini assistant into the Chrome browser. The new feature allows users to quickly understand the website content and support the performance of many online tasks in the browser.
Users can chat with Gemini in text or voice through the Gemini Live feature, which is enabled by the Gemini icon in the upper right corner of Chrome window.
In the first phase, Gemini in Chrome can explain complex information on the website, summarize content, or handle specific requests. For example, you can ask Gemini to adjust the banana cake recipe to suit your gluten-free diet, suggest how to arrange your crops according to bedroom lighting conditions, or create a quick test based on the content you are reading.
The feature will begin to be rolled out to desktop users in the US who are using the Google AI Pro and AI Ultra packages, with Chrome English in the languages of Windows and macOS. In addition, users of Chrome Beta, dev and Canary versions will also have early access.
Google hopes that integrating Gemini directly into Chrome will help users switch to using its AI assistant instead of OpenAI's ChatGPT in search, summarization, and task performance support situations.
In the future, Gemini will be able to process multiple tabs at the same time, such as comparing two products that are opening in parallel. This AI can even navigate and operate on the website as requested by the user.
According to Google, the long-term goal is to help users "turn online tasks into 30 minutes with just a few clicks left".
