Billionaire Elon Musk's xAI company, the developer of chatbotok, has just officially introduced Grokipedia, an online full-back encyclopedia powered by AI, designed like a competition of Wikipedia.
Musk said the platform is a huge improvement from Wikipedia and reflects his broader vision of helping people better understand the universe through AI.
Unlike Wikipedia, where people are free to edit content, Grokipedia does not allow direct changes.
Users can only request editing or reporting errors through the form. Each article on the platform is actually checked by AI Grok and the most recent update timestamp is displayed, helping to ensure the transparency and reliability of data.
Some of Grokipedias content is now adapted from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Production and Sharing License 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0), but Musk insists that the copying will stop before the end of the year.
As of its launch, Grokipedia has had 885,279 articles and the number is expected to increase rapidly as the system expands.
According to Musk, the Grokipedia project was inspired by the suggestion of David Sacks, a technology investor and AI consultant close to him.
Billionaire Musk believes that an AI-composited whole-book encyclopaedia that does not depend on a human author will help avoid political or ideological bias.
Grokipedia currently offers free access and open source code, but only works on the web browser. xAI has not announced plans to develop an app for Android or iOS.
The birth of Grokipedia shows that Musk is expanding his AI ecosystem, not only stopping at Grok chatbot but also aiming to redefine how humanity approaches knowledge online.
