First of all, sweet potatoes are a source of complex carbohydrates, rich in fiber, vitamins A, C and minerals such as potassium, magnesium. Complex carbohydrates help release energy slowly, avoid sudden blood sugar spikes, thereby limiting fat accumulation. When eaten for dinner, sweet potatoes help create a feeling of fullness for a long time, reduce cravings for snacks at night - one of the common causes of fat gain.

But if you want to reduce fat and gain muscle, you should not eat sweet potatoes alone. Sweet potatoes mainly provide starch, while the process of building muscle needs protein. Therefore, the most effective way to eat is to combine sweet potatoes with quality protein sources such as chicken breast, fish, eggs, tofu or Greek yogurt. This combination both ensures enough energy for the body, supports muscle recovery and development after exercise, and limits excess fat storage.

How to process sweet potatoes plays a key role. Sweet potatoes should be boiled, steamed or grilled without oil. Frying with grease or covered with sugar and honey will increase unnecessary calories, going against the goal of reducing fat. Besides, it is reasonable to only eat about 100–150g of sweet potatoes for dinner, avoid eating too much because even if it is good starch, excess can still be converted into fat.

Finally, eating time is also very important. Dinner should take place at least 2-3 hours before bedtime for the body to have time to digest. If you exercise in the afternoon or evening, eating sweet potatoes after exercise combined with protein will help supplement glycogen for muscles, support muscle growth without causing abdominal pain.

Eating sweet potatoes for dinner can completely support fat reduction and muscle gain if done properly: Moderate portions, healthy processing, protein combination and eating at the right time.
