Health benefits of soursop
According to nutritionist Deepalakshmi (Sree Balaji Hospital, Chennai, India), soursop can be eaten daily for its many health benefits.
Soursop is rich in nutrients like vitamin C and vitamin B6 and contains minerals like potassium, magnesium and fiber.
Vitamin C in soursop helps boost the immune system.
Dietary fiber promotes regular bowel movements and aids digestion. The presence of antioxidants in soursop may help protect cells from oxidative damage. Additionally, the potassium in soursop plays an important role in regulating blood pressure, which is beneficial for heart health.
Soursop is low in calories but rich in fiber and water, which helps you feel full longer and aids weight loss if consumed properly in your daily diet.
Soursop Consumption for Diabetics
According to Dr. Deepalakshmi, people with diabetes can still eat soursop, but need to pay attention to the amount.
Since soursop has a low to moderate glycemic index (GI), it does not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar. However, it does contain natural sugars, and eating too much can cause a rise in blood sugar.
Diabetics should eat soursop in moderation and pay attention to their body's reaction, especially after eating. To ensure safety, you should consult a doctor or nutritionist about the appropriate amount.
"In addition, you should eat slowly. Diabetics should only eat 1-2 small pieces (about 50-100g) so that blood sugar does not increase quickly," said Dr. Deepalakshmi.
Combine with other foods such as eating with foods rich in fiber, such as green vegetables, or protein sources such as meat, fish, beans, to help slow down the absorption of sugar and stabilize blood sugar.
