Gooseberry helps relieve cough and sore throat
Dr. Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya, an Ayurvedic physician (traditional Indian Hindu system of medicine), says that in winter, our body needs more nutrients. Apart from adjusting our diet and incorporating physical activities, it is essential to prevent seasonal health problems such as cold, cough and stuffy nose…
“Amla is one of the best options for the cold season because of the wonderful benefits it offers,” says Dr. Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya.
Amla is good for hair, making it strong and preventing breakage and hair loss. Winter can easily make hair dry and weak, amla juice can help maintain moisture in hair, prevent dry hair and split ends.
Sharing the same view, nutritionist Nupuur Patil - founder of Nupuur Patil Fitness (Mumbai, India) - said that cold and dry winter air can affect the skin, leading to dryness and dullness. Drinking amla water can help rejuvenate the skin and promote healthy, radiant skin.
Besides, digestive health can be weakened due to changes in diet during cold season, amla helps treat heartburn, bloating or stomach problems to keep the digestive system working properly.
Amla also contains very high levels of vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system, protecting the body from infections and colds, which are common in winter. Vitamin C also helps the body fight oxidation and bacteria.
“The anti-inflammatory properties of amla are especially beneficial for respiratory health, helping to relieve conditions like cough and sore throat. It is also good for the eyes because it contains vitamin A,” says nutritionist Nupuur Patil.
Drinking gooseberry juice in winter helps boost immunity, fight seasonal diseases, nourish the skin, maintain respiratory health and aid digestion naturally.
Note
Dr. Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya notes that since amla is cooling in nature, people suffering from cough and cold should always take it with honey. Gooseberry is acidic in nature, so people suffering from joint pain should also avoid it as eating sour foods can cause joint pain.
