In a newly released video from Vanity Fair, Squid Game director and screenwriter Hwang Dong Hyuk appeared with actors Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Kang Ae Shim, Im Si Wan, Park Sung Hoon and Jo Yuri to play a board game with each other.
Director Hwang was asked who his father would choose as the lead if Squid Game was remade in the US. Lee Byung Hun believes that the director will choose Adam Sandler, but Im Si Wan is the one who correctly guesses the director's intention, the Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Korean director mentioned fans continuously alluding to DiCaprio's participation in Squid Game: "We heard a lot of rumors about him, whether he appeared recently or not."
Im Si Wan is curious that if Leonardo DiCaprio participates, he will be chosen to play the role of "employer", "mysterious man" or a "player". The director replied, "If he were involved, I think he would do well as a player. He has recently become better at playing losers like Gi Hun.
The director also responded to information spreading from some foreign media outlets, that an American film adaptation titled Squid Game: America is expected to begin filming in December, with the participation of famous director David Fincher.
Hwang Dong Hyuk denied the information, but added, "If asked officially, I will seriously consider it."
Netflix's original "Squid Game" became a global phenomenon after its release in 2021, won many Emmy awards and was highly appreciated by critics.
From the success of part 1, Netflix and director Hwang Dong Hyuk continue to produce and release parts 2 and 3.
Recently, Squid Game 3 has just been released and set a new record on Netflix with more than 60.1 million views in just 3 days. Squid Game 3 is the first film to top 1 in all 93 countries with Netflix in the world.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, there were rumors that "Squid Game 3" would invite actor Leonardo DiCaprio to participate. However, Netflix quickly denied it.
In 2022, at a post- Board of Award ceremony party, director Hwang Dong Hyuk jokingly said that he wanted to cast Leonardo DiCaprio when he learned that the "Titanic" actor was a fan of the film.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a famous Hollywood actor, famous for his works "Romeo + Juliet", "Titanic", "Gangs of New York", "Catch me if you can", "The aviator", "The Departed", "Blood Diamond", "Inception", "The Great Gatsby", "The Wolf of Wall Street", "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood"...
At the end of "Squid Game 3", instead of the rumored presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, the real Hollywood actor featured was star Cate Blanchett as an "employer".
