"APT." by Rose (Blackpink) and Bruno Mars climbed the charts rapidly after 3 days of release. The song ranked No. 1 on the global iTunes chart and No. 2 on Spotify globally as of October 19.
Meanwhile, “APT.” maintained its “Real Time All-Kill” record for 44 hours, as of 10 a.m. (Korean time). The song topped the real-time charts of the top 4 music platforms in Korea: Melon, Bugs, Genie, and Flo.
However, according to Allkpop, on the online forum Pann Nate, there were opinions criticizing Rose and saying that "APT." is a song with "too low quality for a talented artist like Bruno Mars".
But this idea has been refuted. On Radio Z100 New York, Rose revealed that “APT.” was not the song she single-handedly chose for her collaboration with Bruno Mars.
Rose said that during a few meetings with Atlantis Records, she accidentally learned that Bruno Mars had also signed a contract with this record label. Rose happily shared with the record label staff that she was a “big fan” of Bruno Mars. The female idol first suggested to Atlantis Records: “Do you think he would like to collaborate with me?”.
Bruno then asked Rose to send him 3 songs. At that time, she still thought that the collaboration would be 99% impossible because Bruno Mars was a world-famous star. But she thought that just having Bruno listen to 3 of her songs was a big win.
Surprisingly, when the two met again, Bruno asked Rose: “What does APT. mean?”. She explained: “It’s a Korean drinking game.” Rose was shocked when it was the song Bruno Mars wanted to collaborate with her on.
The post on Pann Nate emphasized that “APT.” is the song that Bruno Mars loved and personally chose out of the 3 songs Rose sent.
Some viewers agreed and commented: "Bruno has won many Billboard awards, do you really think he would choose a bad song? You can't ignore his instincts."
"Bruno Mars is notorious for not collaborating if he doesn't like the song, no matter how much he's offered."
“Do you really believe that someone forced Bruno to sing that song? Bruno Mars is at a level where no one can force him to do anything he doesn't want to do. At first, the song seemed a little strange, but the more I listened to it, the better it got.”
"Bruno always has a cheerful image, even singing a song like 'Don Quixote', so I don't understand why people say he doesn't fit. The 'APT.' music video is very cute."
In an interview with Vogue, Rose said that she initially wanted to delete the recording of “APT.” because she was worried that it was a drinking game song. But when she contacted her staff to delete the song, they all said they were addicted to it, so “APT.” was kept.
Now, “APT.” has helped Rose set countless records. She became the female K-pop solo artist with the biggest debut on the global Spotify chart (first day at No. 3 with 6.8 million streams).
According to the latest predictions, “APT.” is predicted to debut at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week if it maintains its good performance.
Rose is also the female Kpop artist with the biggest debut on Spotify US, the only female Kpop solo artist in history to have a song reach over 1 million first-day streams on Spotify US.
